Circumcision Articles

Circumcision is a very controversial subject. I did a lot of reading on it when I was pregnant with my daughter, since we didn't know she was a girl. From all I read on the subject, my husband and I determined that if we ever have a boy we would not circumcise him. We've since had a son and no, we did not circumcise him. The information I read on the subject was overwhelmingly against it. Also, the trend is now swinging in the opposite direction right now in that the percentage of boys circ'd vs not is dropping dramatically year after year. Last I heard the percentage was 60% circ'd to 40% not. That seems to me to say A LOT. Parents are thankfully educating themselves on these important issues and medical professionals have finally admitted there's really no reason for it, other than cultural beliefs. Of course, everyone is entitled to make this decision as they see fit. I choose to allow my child to make the decision for himself, I will not make it for him. It's too serious of a decision, in my opinion. From everything I read, I feel circumcision to be cosmetic surgery for infants. And yes, it is painful for them, regardless of whether or not they get anesthetic.

From my experience, there tends to be a common thread that those that circumcise usually have not educated themselves on all aspects of it, and those that choose to not circumcise are usually very well educated on the topic. Not always, but more often then not. I find that very interesting.

But then, as I said, everyone is entitled to make their own decision...My suggestion, though, is to make an informed decision. With that in mind, here are some very eye-opening articles on the subject:
