This one's got to be my alltime favorite! The
pictures are amazing, and the message is
powerful! I've shared this book with literally
HUNDREDS of children, and they always love the
earth-friendly message, and especially the
pictures!
This one is SO cute! A little girl finds a whale
in her backyard pond and writes to her teacher,
Mr. Blueberry, about it...He, of course, tells
her there could not possibly be a whale in her
pond, because whales are salt-water
animals...so, she pours salt into the pond...and
it just continues from there...The pictures are
sweet.
I
got this book to review from
Dawn Publications. The illustrations are
just STUNNING!! This story is a song, sung to
the tune of the Twelve Days of Christmas...with
each day bringing more wonderful and beautiful
wild animals to appreciate and love. This is a
great way to instill appreciation for the beauty
of the living things on this Earth. At the back
of the book it includes information on
celebrating Earth Day and having your own
Earth's Birthday party.
Oh,
the shenanigans of a little girl named Eloise,
who lives in the Plaza Hotel in NYC! These books
are long, but OH-SO-HYSTERICAL! If Eloise isn't
the definition of "free spirited," I don't know
WHAT is!! I was hooked from the moment I opened
this book! The pictures are very fun, and the
story of the little girl who wreaks havoc with
hotel staff daily will make you laugh out loud!
(It did me!)
This is one I used to read to my trail groups
(of 6th graders at
SCICON Outdoor School), on the quartz mine
trail...Since we were going digging for rocks,
it seemed only right that we should first learn
HOW to find the perfect rock! This book, as most
of Byrd's books, is narrated by a child, and as
such, has a very unique feel. Who hasn't
collected rocks before? You may look at rocks
differently after reading this book!
The
Felix books are so neat! The adventures of a
globe-trotting toy rabbit, who belongs to a
little girl named Sophia. (I learned about these
books from a little girl I used to know called
Sophia...who swore these books were written for
her!) Felix always remembers to send word back
to Sophie as to his adventures! Similar to the
"Postman" books...there are envelopes on most
pages with actual pull out letters, seemingly
hand written...very sweet!
Also check out all
the other "Felix" books, which are also good!
I
got this book to review from
Dawn Publications. This
is a great trip through a Costa Rican rainforest
called "El Bosque Eterno de los Ninos," (which
in English is the Children's Eternal
Rainforest.) Also known as "the BEN", you travel
through the forest through the eyes of a little
boy visiting with his mother, who helped (with
her elementary school classmates, 20yrs prior)
to start the purchase of the land for this
project. The story introduces you to numerous
indigenous species of the forest, and include
little fact clips about everything you run into
during the adventure. It also is very inspiring
in learning how this project came about and how
its still going on today...its sole purpose to
save a piece of the rainforest for the children
of tomorrow. The book included factual info on
this true story and at the end you get to learn
more about the actual creation of the forest and
has a bunch of wonderful book and website
recommendations to expand upon what the book
started.
I
stumbled upon this one when my daughter, son,
and I were on our way to a birthday party and
were hitting the Barnes and Nobles just before
going to the party (I am a very last minute
shopper, plus they have free gift wrapping!) and
saw this on display just as we walked in the
front door. It was newly released and just cute
as can be so it was an easy decision to get this
for our friend! Its just a darling story about a
little fox that wants to make a friend so he
MAKES a friend, out of things around him. Very
silly as the story progresses and he gets
helpers to help him make a friend...and all
along he's making friends for real and doesn't
realize it! Too cute! The pictures are just
adorable as well!
This one is very sweet. Frog & Toad are just so
childlike and naive. There are several short
chapters of various adventures in this
book...good for night-time reading, methinks!
Also good for beginning readers!
Also check out the
other "Frog & Toad" books, which are also good!
