Ohmygosh, this one is just HYSTERICAL! In true
Bloom County style, it's Opus & his best
friends, Bill the Housecat, Milquetoast the
Housebug, & Ronald-Ann the Housekid on "The
Great Basselope Expedition!" What's a basselope,
you ask? Hm...looks strangely like a basset
hound with antlers, (named Rosebud) but maybe
it's just me... I have shared this one with MANY
children, and it never fails to elicit
uncontrollable giggles (in me, the narrator, as
well!) And, of course, the pictures are just
awesome!
Sadly, this is out of print...but there are
often many used copies available!
I
think this is my FAVORITE Kevin Henkes book!
Lilly is just everybody's spunky little
girl...with a new (musical!) purple plastic
purse...I just LOVE this book! If you can find a
little girl to share this with...be sure to look
for the toy purse that often is displayed for
sale nearby...she'll love you forever!
I've loved every
one of Kevin Henkes' books...so check out all
the others as well!
A
woman longs for a child...and creates one out of
paper...An Asian "Pinnochio"...you KNOW she'll
be real by the end! The pictures in this book
are stunning!
Dr.
Seuss may be silly, but has some very potent
messages in some of his books! This one has an
environmental theme that will NOT be missed by
anyone! We used to present this story as a skit
at
SCICON, because of it's powerful ecological
message...The Onceler builds a factory to make "thneeds"
from the truffula trees, and in the process,
destroys a whole ecosystem! The swammy-swans,
barbaloots (in their barbaloot suits!) and the
the humming fish all have to move out or die
from the pollution! True to Seuss form, the
characters are fun and silly, but the message is
clear.
